For this project, we were asked to create a magazine cover, showing us on the cover for what we would want to be famous for. We used Adobe Photoshop CS2 to achieve this. Not many steps were needed to do this. We took the title out of the appropriate magazine that we would be on. Then we took a picture of ourselves and cropped (if necessary) out the background. We came up with various headlines to put on the magazine, and played around with blending options to make it look more professional.
My magazine has “Entertainment” in big blue letters at the top, with “Weekly” written inside the word itself in white. The headlines are all in gold, with the descriptions underneath in white. My picture is shown on the right side, with half my face showing. My eye is colored red, and I have a sort of lightning bolt design under and around my eye. The biggest headline, the one that shows what I’m famous for is “Hottest New Primetime Show Gets a Season Two” with the description underneath: “Also: An interview with psychopathic, supernatural detective himself!”. There are other headlines, such as “Demi Lovato: The Rocker Princess Is Lead Role in an Action Movie?”, “’I’m pregnant’ Lady Gaga Due a Kid Gaga In Nine Months”, and “Superhero Clash: Batman and Superman face off in theaters”.
Using the various tools at my disposal, I made my image look more “supernatural” to fit my role on the magazine, as a “psychopathic and supernatural detective”. The red eye and eyeliner-ish design adds a touch of mystery and darkness, finished off with my purple aura. My slouching posture was used to give the effect of a psychopath, for normal people would not slouch for such a prestigious magazine. I don’t smile in the picture: to me, a photo for Entertainment Weekly is just another photo shoot.
I feel that I could’ve done better with this project, but I guess the result wasn’t too bad. I need to get better at cropping/cutting things out of images, as I leave white lines and it makes it obvious that its photoshopped. Also, I feel like the magazine is too cramped and that my face takes up a large portion of the cover, leaving less room for text. But I do like my color choice, and my headlines are well organized. I feel like this’ll be somewhere in the B range.
